We currently have our first Kickstarter campaign for a set of miniatures running over on Kickstarter.
The campaign contains 5 sets of 3 miniatures in 1:56 scale (28mm) that can be used in a multitude of games. The miniatures will be cast in pewter and we are looking to complete between December 2016 and February 2017 allowing for problems that may occur along the way. If you want to learn more then subscribe to our newsletter by registering here for updates. You can also follow more of the progress over on the Barakum Bar Facebook Group or our Gydran Miniatures facebook page. - Monday 22nd August Kickstarter update (8/22/2016)
It’s Monday the 22nd of August, 2016, and the Kickstarter campaign is now into day 8 of the 30 day duration. So far we have seen it get to 14% of the funding needed to make it a success and a lot of vocal support for it. It’s great to see so many people saying such positive things about it and we are all very excited here. So what have we seen happen on the campaign? Well so far two miniatures have been completed with two more almost in the same position. The Troll Hunter Heavy Support miniature is next up to be completed, today hopefully, and then we can move on to the next two miniatures in the list which come from the campaigns 4th set which includes Soledad, Beia and Bamboo. We will be working on Soledad and Bamboo first.
So, lets show you some of the stuff from this campaign so far.
We’re really liking the Heavy support miniature armour and we’re thinking of making it a permanent armour type for the Troll Hunter units, and so we are asking you what you think! To paraphrase the words of The Clash… Should it stay or should it go!?
Should it stay or should it go!? Should the new Troll Hunter armour become a standard for the entire troop type?
- Stay (100%, 4 Votes)
- Go (0%, 0 Votes)
Total Voters: 4Loading ...
This poll will be open right up until the end of the campaign so feel free to share it about so we can get peoples responses to this.
The other miniatures that have been completed are the Mine Guard Sgt. Mathius and one of the Dweorg Raider miniatures. These guys are basically your scavengers of the Dweorg society. They take whatever they want by force and are reviled by the rest of the Dweorg civilisation. Raider parties are made up of outcasts, exiles, and all manner of people Dweorg. They have their own rules and a hatred for the consortium. They refer to themselves as the Drowe-Kin.
So last week started out really well and this week is going to be just as good. Remember that if you haven’t already checked it out you should go and see the campaign running over on our Kickstarter page!
Also, don’t forget to spread the word and help it reach as many eyes and ears as you can. It’s only with your support that we can make this a success.by
- Kickstarter campaign – NOW LIVE (8/15/2016)
So there has been a lot of work going on in the background here as we approached today and at approximately 8:30 am today (15-08-2016) we went live with our first campaign. We have already seen some pledges come in and have feedback filtering its way down to us. Everything you guys say we take on board and we appreciate everything you are saying to us.
Just in case you haven’t seen any of what’s available in the campaign, here are some of the rewards and add-ons/stretch goals you can expect to see, with more stretch goals planned and becoming unlocked once we reach that level.
The campaign is running for the next 30 days and we are looking forward to getting these miniatures sculpted and launched. It’s going to be a fun trip and we hope you can join us on this adventure. You can find the campaign at: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/gidranminiatures/science-fiction-space-dwarfs-dweorg
- A thought on process – a train of thought by John Bryan (8/8/2016)
Earlier on today our sculptor, John, wrote a piece on his personal website. The run up to the campaign has been hectic for everyone involved and for John this threw up some questions regarding the process of design from concept to finished piece.
“With the campaign looming for the Dweorg Kickstarter i have been thinking a lot about the creative process, especially my creative process. It seems that there is an expected way in which, as a designer, you are expected to create your content. This process goes from concept to finished piece in a very linear way with the work being approved at various levels by those leading the creative team and steering it in the way of the overall vision for the project. This is a process i was very much involved in and followed for many years, but when i decided to venture out into the world of miniature production i shunned that process which had been so prevalent in all my work previously. I stopped creating full concept drawings an opted for sketches of ideas on a piece of paper and pulled the finished elements together in the final sculpt. It was no longer a case of a design for a specific project but a general idea that i wanted to convey in the designs. I found myself taking elements from previous projects and tinkering with them. It was in this way that the Dweorg were born and over a period of a few years while sculpting, cast and then converting those casts that the full idea behind the people came to be what they are today.”

- Kickstarter 1st miniature poll (6/16/2016)
With the Kickstarter coming up this August we are working hard to get everything ready here. One of the things we are doing is sculpting one of the models so that we can show the progress from concept to completed model. This is where you guys come in to help us decide which one to make. You can use the poll below to help us choose which one we start. The images of the concept work are below too so that you can get an idea of what they will look like.
Which concept piece should get the 'first sculpt' treatment?

- Kickstarter incoming – part 1 (6/15/2016)
This is the first post about our upcoming Kickstarter campaign for our dwarf miniatures. The campaign will contain nine new miniatures, a couple of faces you may recognise, and a Kickstarter/show exclusive miniature that will not be available via the online store and only through this and future Kickstarter campaigns or from our booth at shows. We have been working with a talented artist by the name of Megan Tupper who has been taking our briefs and turning them into artwork to depict the miniatures that are coming. We will be sculpting one of the miniatures prior to the start of the campaign so that you can see how the new images will translate into miniatures.
We’re getting rather excited about this campaign as it is our first one so along with the excitement there is a bit of a sense of the unknown which creeps in too. The campaign will allow us to make production moulds of the miniatures to be cast in resin as well as for us to make the master models in resin to be able to send to the mould maker. We have some interesting stretch goals in the pipelines too which will be showing up on the campaign and some sneak peaks prior to its launch.
The anticipated start of the campaign is in mid-August 2016 and will run for 30 days. We are hoping that we will have all sculpts completed and ready to be sent out to our backers by Christmas 2016, but this will also be dependent on factors outside of our control so we will be saying Mid-December 2016 to the end of January 2017 on the actual campaign to allow for any setbacks to the project via third parties like our mould makers or other such situations outside of our control.
Below are a couple of the images we’ve received back from our artists, Megan, and it’s your chance to vote on which one you would like to see sculpted first before the start of the campaign. If you’re a subscriber to our site you can just leave a comment below or you can go across to our Facebook page or group and vote there. We’ll be closing the voting on this in mid-July so that we can have enough time to get it sculpted and the comparison photos etc done to be included in the campaign information.
Some of the other possibilities for the stretch goals include a new and updated Bear mount with alternative heads, a new Mech suit with dwarf pilot, and some smaller battle robots. These are just ideas for now, but we will decide and refine them over the next coming months.by
